Summer safety tips to beat the heat for American bulldog owner

You may want to sun and surf in the summer but your American bulldog want shade and water!!!

Without shade and water American bulldogs can overheat, become ill and die within short time. Summer is when american bulldogs have the greatest risk of injury and heat related health problems.

Watch for signs of heat stroke:

Signs include rapid panting, lots of drooling, hot skin, twitching muscles, vomiting and dazed look.
Act quickly to cool down your american bulldog - wrap it in a towel soaked with cool ( not cold) water, or place it in a bathtub with cool water or pour cool water over the pet. You can also put ice packs on American bulldogs head . Consult your vet if your american bulldog has heat stroke.

Provide Plenty of fresh water

Dogs can only sweat by panting or through pads on their feet. Water loss from the wet surfaces of their mouth and nose helps lower their body temperature. american Bulldogs need fresh water at home and outdoors, so take water with you for your pet.

Watch for sun burn

Sensitive paws burn easly. Water, sand and rock at the beach reflect sunlight - your american bulldog could get sunburn.Control you american bulldog exposure to sun - limit the time and provide the shade.

Find a cool spot

keep air circulating indoors for american bulldogs - use a fan or air conditionging. Provide shade outdoors for American bulldogs. A gentle sprinkle from garden hose is also helpful to keep them cool.

Watch how much american bulldogs eat and excersise.
Overeating during hot weather could lead to overheating - let your pets eat less. Avoid exercise and vigorous activity during the hottest part of the day.

Never leave your american bulldog in parked car!!

even the window open slightly or parked in shade when the temperature reaches 30C the temperature inside the car can reach 50C in minutes. This is extremely dangerous for dogs. Although your american bulldog may want to come with you , it is much kinder to leave it at home with plenty of fresh cool water and shade.
If your pet is accidentally locked in your car or if you see pet in distress locked in the car call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.
