American bulldogs and camping

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

If you are going camping with your american bulldog it is important that your american bulldog is well behaved. Your american bulldog should be well socialized. You should know your american bulldog and recognize which situations will provoke aggression.
If you did not take your american bulldog to classes make sure that you change that. Training will make your american bulldog more obedient and will make you a better owner.

If your american bulldog is friendly to other dogs and animals it will make your life easier.
It’s not easy camping with american bulldog that is dog agressive, but it can be done, through a great deal of caution, sensitivity to surroundings and responsibility on the part of the owner.

CHECKLIST:

1.American Bulldogs have to VACCINATED - your american bulldog will encounter wildlife while camping - making sure that s/he has all shots is your responsibility before you go camping

2.Training classes - know your dog - know what makes him bark, what makes him scared, what makes him agressive - know the body language of your dog.

3.Keep your american bulldog on the leash at all times. Even if s/he is friendly they may come across an agressive animal

4.harness (for the seat belt)
You may be a wonderful driver, but many people aren’t. Plus, driving on poor and/or curvy roads can send your dog all over the insides of the car, if not through the windshield. I put my dogs each in a dog body harness, then run a seat belt through each harness. American bulldogs can sit or lay down, but can’t be thrown around the car. It also keeps them in the back seat, which is the coolest place in the truck, when I have to run into a store or something.

If you have a truck with a bed and don’t allow your american bulldog in the cab (which, in my opinion, is ridiculous, but…), please purchase a dog carrier and put your american bulldog in it when he or she travels with you; the carrier should offer your dog just enough room to stand up and turn around in, but no more. Dogs die from falling or jumping out of the bed of a truck, from being thrown against the cab during a sudden stop; even leashing them to something in the bed of the truck is no protection, as dogs have also hung themselves while trying to jump out. A dog carrier is the ONLY humane way to travel with your dog in the bed of your truck. Padding the floor, ceiling and sides offers even better protection.

You may have taken your american bulldog in the bed of your truck, unprotected, a dozen times, or even a hundred times, and never had any problems. So have all the people who now have dead dogs from riding unprotected in the bed of their trucks.

Stella out of Abe and Matilda 2007

Hey there I just wanted to give you a update on Stella. She is doing awesome and is weighing in at 55 pounds right now. Her vet is very happy with how healthy she is. Her first christmas was a great one she got spoiled from me and even got gifts from our grandmother and my mom sent her gifts from Newfoundland. She is a very happy go lucky dog that turns heads where ever we go!We love her.She and the cat have finally realized that they can be friends and the have started playing which is the funniest thing ever. She graduated at the top of her class in puppy class and now we are thinking about putting her in another one later this spring. So thanks again for everything! I am always telling people that this breed is a amazing breed and they all know where she came from! I know when I get another puppy it’s going to be
another AB and it’s gonna hopefully come from you guys. Here are some of the latest pics of Stella.Enjoy!

Rocky out of Chopper and Chevelle 2007

Here is a picture of Rocky at 6months old he is starting his head is starting to fill out. he is weighing over 80 His tempermant is great.Everyone who meets him still can’t believe he is a puppy still. They say he is well behaved for a puppy. My one year old son jumps on him and he just lays there and takes it he is very gentle with the youngest. He plays a little rougher with my 11 year old. It’s like he knows who he has to be gentle with. When I tell him to settle down when the dogs are playing he will go lie down on the dog chair. But over all he is great, even my father in law said to me he doesn’t give him enough credit.

Update on Bullock and HaZeus and Winston

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Just an update on how Bullock is doing…He is a couch potato and doesn’t like the
snow. He has been a wonderful puppy and listens very well. Here are some pics we
took this week:

Winston is growing every day. He weighs in at
25lbs 8oz and getting tall. He has a tiny little waste, big paws, thick front legs and his chest is already big.

HaeZeus is doing really awesome, he is 23 lbs, got him weighed
today. Very healthy and everything. We were also wondering about papers, we should
be getting them any day now? The new puppies look amazing!! When I get my house next
year we will be stopping by again perhaps for another puppy…

Tons of people ask me where I got him, also so he is good advertising for your
kennel. I have a questions about his tail. It has a little kink in it, what would
you suggest. We had a vet reccomend that we can amputate, but I was hesitant and not
sure.

Papers will be send out soon. I got ABRA and NKC papers already still waiting on ABA - give or take 1-2 weeks and they should be here.

We wouldn’t touch the tail unless you want to show the dog and even when you do it is just a cosmetic fault and cost you couple of points.

Stephanie Fletcher Ontario Keera

So far, she’s been great. We’ve been taking her to McCann training…she’s very

smart! So far, she has learned how to sit, down, speak, shake paw, spin around,

come, stay…..She tends to be very distracted, however, around the other dogs in

the class…at home she’s great though….

Temperament - she’s very active outdoors and loves to play chase…..loves to go for

long walks with us….sometimes in the evening when we’re relaxing she can get a bit

rambunctious but that’s typical with puppies! She’s learning how to ’settle down’

but it’s a tough process!

Other than that, she’s an absolute joy…she loves to be around us all the time….

Dutch- Matilda and Abe

Matt Kennedy Dutch Winnipeg

Hello, this is Dutch.  He is about 4 months old now.  He is full of energy- he loves

playing with anyone or anything he can get his ‘paws’ on; his toys, especially his

stuffed, blue toy gorilla that squeeks, and the cat, Kitty.  Dutch loves to run

around and watch what is going on around him.  But he is also pretty quiet.  He

always greets you at the door when you come home. Dutch loves hugs and kisses, and

loves to cuddle with you when he is tired.
