The Sixth and Seventh Weeks

This is a time of wonder and curiosity for the young pup,but he is also very sensitive to emotional harm. His
emotions will be revealed; he’ll start barking to get attention, whining to show fear, and whimpering if hurt .
Take care not to scare or upset him in any way. It’s best that the dog be allowed to relate one on one with a human
being, allowing trust to start to build. It is also a time of great fan. He should be given a supply of toys, because
he will be very rambunctious and needs them to interact. If he goes too far when playing, his mother will put him in
his place. When the puppies are weaned, have their own teeth, and can eat by themselves, the mother dog assumes
the role of alpha or pack leader. The mother will show her puppies - using toys - when it’s appropriate to bite.

Puppies will also attack each other to establish dominance and to determine who the alpha is.

Her first christmas was a great one she got spoiled from me and even got gifts from our grandmother and my mom sent her gifts from Newfoundland. She is a very happy go lucky dog that turns heads where ever we go!We love her.She and the cat have finally realized that they can be friends and the have started playing which is the funniest thing ever. She graduated at the top of her class in puppy class and now we are thinking about putting her in another one later this spring. So thanks again for everything! I am always telling people that this breed is a amazing breed and they all know where she came from! I know when I get another puppy it’s going to be
another AB and it’s gonna hopefully come from you guys. Here are some of the latest pics of Stella.Enjoy!

Rocky out of Chopper and Chevelle 2007

Here is a picture of Rocky at 6months old he is starting his head is starting to fill out. he is weighing over 80 His tempermant is great.Everyone who meets him still can’t believe he is a puppy still. They say he is well behaved for a puppy. My one year old son jumps on him and he just lays there and takes it he is very gentle with the youngest. He plays a little rougher with my 11 year old. It’s like he knows who he has to be gentle with. When I tell him to settle down when the dogs are playing he will go lie down on the dog chair. But over all he is great, even my father in law said to me he doesn’t give him enough credit.

Brooklyn’s Puppies 3rd week

The Third Week

During this week, the puppy’s other senses start to
operate.Their eyes are open now. They can detect light and dark, as well as movement,
and will respond to large or sudden sounds. They will start
to interact with his brothers and sisters, and he starts
developing social skills by this interaction, i.e.,
touching them with his paws and mouth.
They learns to crawl, and his tail begins to wag. They can also
venture from his mother to urinate on his own. In some
cases, puppies, though not weaned, can be fed liquid food
suggested by a veterinarian.

Why Keep Your Dog Fit

Exercise is a key factor in the health and well-being of your dog. Fit dogs are more alert and content. They sleep better, have more energy, and experience fewer socialization problems. Active dogs also tend to live longer, with fewer health problems. Regular exercise helps dogs build strong bones, improves cardiovascular systems, and tones muscles.

Exercising your dog also benefits you at the same time!

How Long Should A Dog Walk Be?

A half hour walk twice a day should be sufficient for most dogs. Never push your pet beyond his or her capabilities

Starting Out

Be aware that dogs, like people, need time to get into shape and that weather conditions impact greatly on a dog’s abilities. Before starting an exercise program take your dog for a veterinary checkup. Also, pay close attention to your dog’s footpads. Care needs to be taken when walking on certain surfaces which can irritate, damage or be painful to your dog’s feet (for example, sharp-stoned gravel or hot pavement). Regularly check your dog’s footpads for excessive wear from walking on pavement and for cracking. In snowy conditions check for ice buildup between the toes.

Remember to start your exercise program slowly, and gradually build up the stamina of your dog. This is especially important if your dog is overweight, an older dog, or a puppy. Dogs, by nature, will loyally try to keep up with you even when their health is in danger. After walks be sure to provide shade and cool water on hot days, and warm, draft free housing in winter.

While walking your dog remember to “stoop and scoop” - it’s the law in most cities (and part of proper pet etiquette).

Keep your dog on leash during walks, unless you are in a designated area that allows dogs to run free.

Remember to make sure your dog has identification and is licensed.

You are responsible for the actions of your dog. Most dog bites occur to children under the age of 10 years old. A well socialized, neutered dog is less likely to bite.

Teach children to approach your dog safely. Follow these simple rules:

  1. Make sure children ask permission to pet the dog - let them know that not all dogs are friendly!
  2. Children should allow the dog to sniff their hand first. This prepares the dog (and the child) for contact.
  3. Have the child pet the dog under the chin first. If the dog is comfortable the child can pet the dog along its back.

Keera from Brooklyn and Chopper

Stephanie Fletcher Ontario Keera

So far, she’s been great. We’ve been taking her to McCann training…she’s very

smart! So far, she has learned how to sit, down, speak, shake paw, spin around,

come, stay…..She tends to be very distracted, however, around the other dogs in

the class…at home she’s great though….

Temperament - she’s very active outdoors and loves to play chase…..loves to go for

long walks with us….sometimes in the evening when we’re relaxing she can get a bit

rambunctious but that’s typical with puppies! She’s learning how to ’settle down’

but it’s a tough process!

Other than that, she’s an absolute joy…she loves to be around us all the time….

Matt Kennedy Dutch Winnipeg

Hello, this is Dutch.  He is about 4 months old now.  He is full of energy- he loves

playing with anyone or anything he can get his ‘paws’ on; his toys, especially his

stuffed, blue toy gorilla that squeeks, and the cat, Kitty.  Dutch loves to run

around and watch what is going on around him.  But he is also pretty quiet.  He

always greets you at the door when you come home. Dutch loves hugs and kisses, and

loves to cuddle with you when he is tired.

Tracy Ratte K.O. Ontario

He is very layed back. He loves children
and gets very excited when he sees them. He also gets along very well with
our Boston Terrier, Buster and our tom cat, Tango. He has burst of energy
and loves to play but in otherwise quite calm. He is very observant,
noticing even slightest differences in his environment. You can tell that
he is instinctively quite protective of his family, this trait will
definitely increase as he matures. He is very intelligent and has been very
easy to train. We will be taking K.O. to obedience training in the fall
even though we really don’t think we will need it. He listens very well,
especially to me as I spend the most time with him.We love him very much
and are very happy with him!!!
